Opinions on ID&T Custom Guns-Rem 600 in 338 Fed

I am helping/encouraging a friend to convert his Rem 600 .243 to 338 Federal. Cost is an issue and thought about Shaw but bad reviews and the fact that they only offer the 338 bore in a very heavy contour discouraged me. I see that ID&T will do a Douglas #2 (cut to 20") very reasonably but want some opinions on the quality of their work before I commit. Any opinions??? Thanks guys.

i do my own work, but have had a customer bring me a barreled action from these fellows to stock. it was well done and the customer told me he was happy with their service. i have also read several times about these guys on assorted posts and don't ever recall hearing anything bad about them.

It&d are good folks.

a 358 winchester is exactly the same as the 338 federal, with MORE power, cheap bullets (pistol bullets), and more fun

I've only had one barrel supplied, installed and blueing done. I tried them based on comments on this site. I was very pleased. They were very helpful giving me info before we started.

I will be using them again.

As usual just my $.02

20 plus years ago I had two MKX actions that they put douglas barrels on for me. They did a good job of it.

I have at least 6 barrels done by them, and all have worked flawlessly.

I have no reservations using them.

Jay,

I've been using I.T.&D. for over twenty years and have never had any bad work! Their bead-blast blue is tops!

Dave will also use any barrel manufacturer you desire, although they specialize in Douglas barrels.

Same here, I had them do a bead blast and blue having specific requests on what was to be blued and what was to left white and they did a very good job.

I've used them several times over the last 20 years. I give them my highest recommendation.

I am packing up a REM 600 right now to send to them. I'm having it made into a 338FED too. Great minds think alike. This is my first time using them. Based on how that project goes, they will get my business for a 280 also.

Thanks guys for the great info and recommendations, with all the positive feedback they will be getting my business on this one.

they will do a #2 douglas, when I wrote them they replied with a quote for a 338/08. I know these two rounds are very similar but I'm not sure if they're identical. I need to find this out but you might clarify with them. Good luck.

I'm not sure if they are identical or not. It really doesn't matter to me since I reload only and this rifle will not be traveling outside the US. My 600 is all boxed up and will be shipped on Monday. It will be a 21" #2 with a bead blast blue.
