I aquired a Dickson Howa action that I believe is a Sako L61R copy/clone. I need a stock and would prefer a composite. I know Boyds has wood, but I would prefer a HS Precision or a Bell and Carlson. I don't have any experience with Sako actions. Are there other actions that are somewhat close I can modify the stock to fit the L61 or am I stuck with Boyds? Thanks

You can use any L61 Sako stock, the Howa is a Sako action with a hummpty dumpty stock by Howa, not a knock off.. Sako sold actions for many years. Find a good used stock glass bedded it wont be a problem. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

A Sako L61R or AIII stock can be made to fit with a small modification. The Howa has a one-piece aluminum magazine/floorplate and the magazine box is slightly wider than the sheet metal box of the Sako. You'll likely need to widen the magazine cut of any stock just a hair in order for the Howa bottom metal (magazine portion) to insert into the stock. I've owned three of the Dickson-Howas, including the very rare short action .308, as well as many, many Sakos. The D-H isn't up to Sako quality, but it is still a cut above the average bolt action rifle of the 1960's -- and WAY above that of most rifles currently produced.
