What to do with a Brno ZKK 602?

Local shop has a 602 in 300 Win Mag for $550.

Understanding that the 602 has a few "quirks/features" such as the back to fire safety, and the general rough finish on the receiver, it has a nicely shaped (to my eye) stock of straight grained wood and is magnum length.

My first thought was send it to Delta Gun Shop for a rebore to 375 H&H (although 375 Weatherby might be needed to clean up the 300 Win Mag chamber?) Or go all the way to 416 Rem Mag. I didn't measure the barrel at the muzzle to see if it's heavy enough to take to 416.

I haven't done any hard figuring on this yet, but the durn thing keeps calling to me. Wink

So, what would this really need to make it usable? I know the safety has to go, it'd never work for me.

Any comments? Suggestions?

I have an itch, and it needs to be scratched, or a better alternative needs to be suggested. So help me out here?

well, a brand new cz is only 50 bucks more... shipping and tax will cancel out..
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=60895142

you could get a 375, 416, or 458 cz takeoff barrel, and have it done that way, and save some...

BUT...

Let's look at this

a DONE cz in 458 or 375 or 416 rigby is 740
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=60782237

and if a barrel or rebore cost you 200 (just parts) and then bluing for 100, that's the same price and you can have it next friday.

if it was a cz 550 mag in 300, that's another story... but a 602, without a popup rear sight, well, it's a relatively expensive donar

I have a 550 in 416Rigby and a 602 in 375 and use both. The 550 has been restocked, the 602 has the original stock that has been glassed. Both safties are original and I have no trouble with either. In most cases you off the safety when you anticipate use not an instant thing in most cases. To me it's a deliberate action. I prefer the trigger of the 602 and prefer the original stock which fits me perfectly. To me they are the best actions available for large calibers. To me they have no real downside. Personal opinion and personal likes.

Yeah Jeffe, it just doesn't make much sense looking at it that way, does it? I guess I should just wait for the Ruger M77 Hawkeyes in 375 Ruger.

I have a 602 in 375 H&H, I like to stock design very much.

Why don't you rebore to 416 Taylor? Cost would be minimal due to no chamber alteration.
