Have a spare subject action and friend that does my gunsmith work happens to have a new 358 bore barrel. Anyone with experience of how the 358Win round works through the 98 action?? Action RC'd at acceptable level and not concerned about the strength so much as will that somewhat short round feed reliably in the action itself?? My friend got stuck with the barrel and thinking we can both help each other out here. All input appreciated.

Hello jeffeosso,
Certainly respect your input and it is much appreciated.
Just returned from visiting my gunsmith and I'll call him tomorrow and ask him to "make all speed..." on the project. Have no experience w/ the 358Win., but in the laurel thickets and deep woods in my hunting area the round should work fine I would think. Shots beyond 200yds are abnormal and in fact the average distance for deer/bear is even less than 100yds. Again, thanks.

look into the sierra gameking 225gr and or the hornady 250gr rn. The Gamekings deliver, to me, EXCELLENT hunting accuracy, and tend to blow gaint exit wounds in pigs, deer, exotics, etc

and do not overlook the mad crazy fun of hornady 158gr XTP .357 bullets at near lightspeed. don't shoot anything you want to EAT with those, but it turn possoms into, well, stew

i've done them on m98, mexican mausers, and springfields. i've owned ruger77, savage99, blr... love the round

a 225 at 2500 has a higher bc and is only 100 fos less than a 308 with a 165 ... 200 yards is easy, if you want it

I would have the .35 cal barrel chambered in 9x57 mauser. Performance will fall between the .358 win and .35 whelen and of course the action was built around a x57 cartridge.
