Jim: I would suggest starting with the maximum listed .30-30 loads in your favorite manual and working up from there. If you're working without a chronograph, then you're pretty much in the dark. Try finding one you can borrow if you don't have one. Or, better yet, plunk down the $75 it takes for one of the simple, yet effective models on the market. | |||

OK Jim, try these: 150 gr sierra: 37 gr IMR 3031 = 2500 fps (max load) 38 gr H 4895 = 2450 fps (max) 40 gr IMR 4320 = 2500 fps (compressed) 39 gr H335 = 2500 fps (max) 39 gr IMR 4064 = 2500 fps (compressed) 170 gr Sierra flat nose: These loads were copied from the 2nd edition of "wildcat cartridges". I have used them and they proved safe in my Winchester mod 94. Hope this helps. | ||
