<Jim Lawrence>reloading data
Hello: First, I wish I had in the past a source of information as availavle as this web site. I'm from the older school where mailed letters were the usual proceedure for gainging info.. This is nice.
I have a 30-30 AI that I am trying to get some popular loads for. I know this is not a usual caliber so I don't expect a huge amount of responses. But, if one of you has some advice I'm sure ready to listen. I understand the customary 8-10% load reduction and work up proceedure. Any help will be gratefully helpful. If there is no help on this subject I hold no animosity. It's still a great posting page. Thanks and good hunting. Jim Lawrence rober1400c@mindspring.com

StonecreekJim:
I would suggest starting with the maximum listed .30-30 loads in your favorite manual and working up from there. If you're working without a chronograph, then you're pretty much in the dark. Try finding one you can borrow if you don't have one. Or, better yet, plunk down the $75 it takes for one of the simple, yet effective models on the market.

<Sooner>OK Jim, try these:
150 gr sierra:
37 gr IMR 3031 = 2500 fps (max load)
38 gr H 4895 = 2450 fps (max)
40 gr IMR 4320 = 2500 fps (compressed)
39 gr H335 = 2500 fps (max)
39 gr IMR 4064 = 2500 fps (compressed)
170 gr Sierra flat nose:
37 gr IMR 4064=2400 (most accurate load)
35.5 gr IMR 3031=2300 (max)(very accurate)
35 gr H 335=2278fps
36.5 gr W-748=2200fps
These loads were copied from the 2nd edition of "wildcat cartridges". I have used them and they proved safe in my Winchester mod 94.
Hope this helps.
