Is it possible to install an M1 or M1A or Ruger ranch rifle rear sight assembly on a Mauser 98 receiver bridge?

If none of these is installable, please identify a receiver sight having a wing protection that is installable.

Not unless you weld on a piece of M1 receiver to the Mauser bridge. There is a Ruger rear sight on the market like you describe but the radius is totally different. Custom make one with your mill.

how about an M1 Carbine repro sight.

Install a steel weaver base blank, cut a dovetail into it.

Though that would give protection, it also blocks vision, something I would not want on any hunting rifle.

I feel your pain, though, having had the cross-arm on a Lyman 66 bent down when my young son fell over while hunting. So, I would just look for something that sits firmly on top of the rifle.

The sight Rich suggests looks slightly better.

You might consider one of these:

They attach to a Weaver base. No dovetail cutting required, just drill and tap for the proper base.

Two valuable possibles.

I have three Brockman receiver sights on Marlin 1895 and a pair of muzzleloaders. They are too long in the base but that surplus metal might be safely disposable. But they are non-precision adjustable and very expensive so as a possibility, not very usable.

Are these still available? Midway lists them as discontinued and the web site has not been updated in a decade.

Would not be a "drop in" but maybe with some modification ?
