I need a recommendation for a smith in the Houston area to work on my CZ 416 Rigby. Took the gun into a reputable outfit to have barrel trimmed, barrel band swivel, trigger job, and replace the stock with a Brockmans. Almost 10 months later I have the rifle back but the bolt will not cycle. Thanks.

Can you eloborate a little on what you mean by won't cycle? "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

From my experience (learned the hard way) you should quit messing around with gunsmiths just based on their geographic location and pay the S&H to send it to a gunsmith that actually knows and works on big bores. Most local gunsmiths (even in a city the size of houston) just don't have enough experience with big bores or don't understand how they are supposed to properly work... thier knowledge ends at "polishing the ramp." You just named a good one... Brockman. Save some time and money and send it to Brockman.

Try Tip Burns He used to live in Houston. He lives in Canyon Lake, Texas. He is building two 404 Jeffery rifles for me. He's a great guy. Rusty We Band of Brothers! On another forum, I saw someone lamenting that Mr. Burns had moved from Houston as they thought he was the best gunsmith they had used. Bear in mind that this was primarily a fishing forum. You need to get those .404s finshed so we can see some pictures!

Thanks for all of the responses. Tiggertate, what I mean by not cycling is that is you cannot operate the bolt without it binding. If you do it ever so delicately it will work, but on a DGR clearly you need to be able to "cycle"/reload as quickly as possible. Hopefully it can be fixed. Thanks again for the references.
