Old Ruger M77 barrel on M77 Mark II receiver. Will it work?

I was wondering if a barrel from a 1970's era Ruger Model 77(top tang safety model) will fit on a Model 77 Mark II action with no problem. I'd like to put one in 250 Savage on the Mark II
which is presently chambered in 22-250. Thanks.
