This poll running on HuntingNet which is a huge forum is basically a poll on "if you had one rifle".

The poll is very big and I think you would agree that the results would be very different if it was done on AR.

The most popular restaurant is McDonalds.

The most popular store is Wal-Mart.

What does that tell you?

Savage,

Your analogy does not really hold true for that poll because the M70, Rem 700 etc are in the same general price range.

For whatever reason that very large forum appears to be a Push Feed forum because I think Wby and Sako are over represented and Browning is very high and Ruger I think is very under represented.

No, but you post i about popularity not being a reflection of quality and I agree with that.

By the way, I did not post that link to support Rem 700s but just to illustrate how the different forums vary.

AR (and previously HA) has a leaning to bigger bores and CRF. I would say 24HourCampfire has more of a leaning to bigger cases on smaller bores and Rem 700 type actions. I am referring here to the keener shooters and posters on each site.

The "one calibre for America" on AR or HA will tend to pull in a lot 338, 375 and some 416 responses but not so on other forums.

I wonder if anyone has ever done a psychological profile of people who have an obsessive need to have their personal preferences constantly validated by others??? bewildered

Heck Mike,
that sights doesn' t even list Hogs as game.. no wonder they aren't interested in a CRF

roflmao

Seriously, if you took dangerous game out of it.. and focused on, say, my home town... the "Best" hunting rifle is a remington in 270, no irons, with a huge scope.. and the 300 weatherby is a cannon

Your average shooter does not even know about crf or push feed and nor do they care.......your average shooter would be more turned on by accuracy what ever the caliber or use, they would trake a sub moa rem 700 push feed over a 1.5-2"finely tuned dgr gun regardless of the hunt or purpose.

PC,

I think one of the reasons for that is that accuracy is something that can been seen "now" whereas the pluses or minuses of different feeding systems, integral bolt handles (sorry M70 fans Big Grin) probably never show up in 99% of cases.

Tbe other thing is that the very keen guns/ammo orientated person simply prefers certain types of actions/rifles and that preference will go beyond feeding etc.

Also actions that you like are also actions that you are very forgiving with. Thus a CRF fan can buy a CZ in 458 Lott and if it jams and splits the stock he forgives it Smiler Exactly the same applies to calibres.

That is a similar situation to Australia. When I tell some shooters that the 375 H&H is only a middle of the road calibre in the power stakes they often look at me like I am mad.

For most shooters any calibre based on the 378 case or Rigby case is simply beyond their imagination Big Grin

I'm not surprised at those poll results at all. That's about the way rifle purchases seem to break down around here as well.

Two curious aspects of that poll: Ithaca was also a voting option, which I found odd, since they haven't offered a bolt-gun since the LSA back in the 1970s, but maybe Ithaca was included because some guys hunt with the Deerslayer slug-gun.

The weirdest canidate was FEDERAL! I thought this was a gun poll? roflmao

I guess polls make for interesting dialog...but is anyone going to dump all their rifles just because they don’t happen to show up in the top spots?

Who cares what other guy‘s like, or don’t like to shoot?

I would love to see each respondent list four reasons why they chose what they did...especially the guy that likes his Federal rifle[?]

The poll is actually one gun, not one rifle. Remington has a lot more votes because a lot of people voted for a Rem 870.

Is it safe to let for a 58 year old man run around in the woods unsupervised with a high powered rifle?

I have absolutely no interest in what the "hoi polloi" prefer. But the distinguished members of this forum, now that's a different story!
