I bought a Winchester mod 70 in .375. It was used but in pristine condition. I mean the bolt barley has stroke marks on it. It had Leupold dovetail wrings and mounts on it. When i mount the scope it is visably of center. There is not enogh adjustment in the scope to boresite it at 10 yards. I machined a sleeve and muonted it in the rings. I used the bore sighter to measure the difference in the barrell and ring orientation. Its 2.5". I am not realy sure were to go from here? I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Either your scope bases are mounted incorrectly or the holes on the receiver are not in a flush line which is my bet. If this is the case, the rifle is good for the scrapyard.

Your best bet is to get bases that have the rear windage adjustment in them. Some Winchesters have base hole off center and this is about the only thing to do.

bases COULD be off screw holes could be off from factory redfield type base, but these aren't QD - wait you said leupold dovetail? you should be able to adjust the screws in the back base to align. opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? They are dual dovetails. I dont know how accurate a test this was. I used a string and with some help lined up the back hole with the blade sight and front site. I could not visualy see that any of the holes are off. I mesured around on the bases. On the front base, the dovetail hole is .009" of center. When the scope was mounted it looked like alot more error than that. I am not real confident thats the problem. I don't think the base is the problem. It's more likely that the base was just mounted slightly a skew due to the slop in the holes, add in any misdrilled holes and it can add up fast. when you took the scope out of the rings did it seem like it was binding? If the rings are not dead straight they can tweak the scope and in some cases bad enough to cause a major problem but not 30 MOA worth (the usual amount of windage in an average scope) Wish you where closer I'd say bring it over we could set it up in the mill and figure out real quick what was going on. www.KLStottlemyer.com Deport the Homeless and Give the Illegals citizenship. Actualy it was the front base. I brought them to work and we were measuring around on them. I had it upside down measuring the threaded holes distance to edge when something caught my eye. If you look down the radius portion of the base you can see it is machined off center. It also cocked slightly front to back. Send those bases back to Leupold. They have stood behind anything I've ever had difficulty with even if I destroyed it on my own and no fault of theirs.
