Virgil, the Sako L691 action is plenty strong, but it will require some work to accomodate the 338 Lapua. Although I am not a big Weatherby proponent, I think that the 340 Weatherby would be the easiest way to go if you want to push a 250 grain bullet at about 3000 fps. All you would have to do is screw on a new 26" Krieger barrel. Sako chambered the L691 in 300 and 340 Weatherby.

virgil bees, If you want smth bigger with the same action lenght you can consider the .338/378 With a great accuracy. Good and more powerful alternative to .340 Wby. ------------------

I'm not a fan of the Weatherby case design, either, so if you want more than a .338 Winchester, I would recommend either a .338/8mm Remington, which is a fairly common wildcat, or the new .338 Remington Ultramag. A good friend has a .338/8mm, and it requires no modification to the action, is simple to load for (just run the 8mm brass into a .338 Winchester FL die backed out the right distance and seat with a .338 Win seater). His velocities run 3200 with 200 to 210 grain bullets and 3000 with 250's. The .338 Ultramag will fit your bolt face without alteration, is the right length for your magazine, and will require only minmal feed rail alteration for the slightly fatter case (you'll probably lose one round of magazine capacity). The velocities you can achieve from it should be similar to the Lapua, and in practical terms, little different from the .338/378. I consider it about the largest practical case for a hunting .338. Good Luck!
