I have a commercial original Mauser 98 type action, I was thinking of making it into a 10.75X68 but now realize that although it is a large ring action it has small ring threads. Will this cause me problems or is this no big deal? TIA

This sounds like a K. Kales Mauser made about 1940 in Ankara Turkey.....and I'd stick to cases no larger than the .470 case head of the .30-06 in that action......just my opinion here!

Not sure if it makes a difference to your answer but its not a Turk, it is a real original Oberndorf commercial Mauser made about 1912

A 10.75x68 case isn't that much larger than a standard 30-06 case so you'd probably be alright.

Lots of 1909 Peruvians have been made into 425 Westley Richards. So, the 10.75x68 being of lesser diameter and not possessing a rebated rim will be much easier to do. Is the action of standard lengt or intermediate?

Can you post some close up photos. I would really like to see this action.

I wonder if these people are professionals worried about liability? Savage went to a new thread on their wsm's. The original savage thread leaves much more meat on the barrel shank than does the SR Mauser. Calculate the minimum thread diameter and you'll see it doesn't leave much meat around the chamber.

Here are pictures as requested. I have other actions avaiable if I want to proceed with the 10.75 project (or I might just keep hoping to find a original 10.75 BRNO ZG47!) The Mauser has already been chopped on so I did not feel bad about breaking apart a collectable sporter, note the scope mounting holes, work on the bolt handle, replacement trigger, replacement safety.

The 10.75x68 is a .500 (actualyl less) casehead, and low pressure... I would be much more worried about action hardness

Original Mauser sporter - tapered tang, lever release floorplate from the factory. Any idea what the original caliber was? The mag box to the eyeball looks a bit short, possibly it was for something of the 7x57 class?

If you can give me inside dimensions of the mag box - front to back, and side to side (front and rear) I can give you some idea of what it was. I have some JPGs of original Mauser work manuals for mag box sizes of different calibers...
