I read of a guy converting M1 carbines to 45 Win. Mag. some years back, and the conversion cost about as much as a decent carbine you would have to supply for the conversion. The article came to mind when I saw several Winchester 100s advertised around on the internet. The only real glitch I see in a conversion would be the cartridge length; would this be a problem? What would be a better platform for such a carbine?

That would be LeMag who was doing the M-1 Carbine conversions to .45 Win Mag. I don't know about the M100 Winchesters in conversions, I don't have any experience. I read reports that the various rounds done in AR-15 uppers seem to work (.50 Beowulf and etc.). jim dodd

I sure would not put any serious money into a Win 100 conversion. Replacement parts are simply too hard to find. The poor man's route would be to hunt around for one of semi-auto carbines Ruger once made in .44 mag. I'd even leave it in 44 mag.
