ramrod340A 458 Wmag case that has been shortened to 2" from the factory 2.5". Not a bad wildcat. 400grs in the 17-1900fps range.
As usual just my $.02

jeffeossotoday, its a 450 marlin, except the marlin has its belt more forward to prevent it from being chambering in a 300 win chamber.

I do have a question. I was under the impression that it is a no-no to chamber a small thread barrel in a magnum as it leaves the chamber walls too thin under the threads. Is this correct?

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

My thoughts were to open it up to Win (altho maybe the Mex is too short), reshape the stock, fix the bolt handle, add some sights, etc.
