I sent these projects off to Jim quite a while ago and they were worth the wait.

The 404 started out as a German 1909 Argentine. I had Jim surface grind the action, heat treat it, swap out the bolt and add a new straight bolt handle. He added some of Duane Wiebes bottom metal, a NECG banded front sight and custom built the qtr rib in the style of Martini and Hagns stuff. I had him add a bold trigger and a Satterlee 3 pos safety. He custom cut the barrel profile in the Westley Richard fashion and cut it to 23". I also had Jim build custom talley bases in the style of dual square bridges.

For the .275 Rigby I sent Jim an Interarms MarkX action. Jim surface ground the all the markings from the action and trued it up. He even plugged the screw holes in the side of the rear bridge. I had him add a checkered 3 sided bolt knob, a LaPour safety and NECG banded front sight. For the rear sight we went with the full wrap around rear sight bases which he blended perfectly with the barrel countour which is also custom cut and 23" long. For the bottom metal I had him take the 1909s and dress it up.

I'm going to try to continue the English theme with medium grained stocks, and red coloring from alkanet root. I'm thinking no ebony tips, pancake cheek piece on the 404 and maybe no cheek piece on the .275. Finished with a nice rust blue.

These are really beautiful, I had to save the pics for my "I like this and might steal from it later" file.

the rear sight on the 275, LOVE IT, that is awesome. I was liking that look on another rifle I saw and wondered how it was accomplished.

I can't wait to see how these bad boys finish out. definitely some of the better looking stuff I've seen in a while, IMO.

Those are awesome. Can't wait to get mine back. I foolishly asked Jim to keep the original Dakota bolt handles when he did ours. They are not back at his place getting replaced.

That is one of the great things about Jim, I knew I wanted that sight as soon as I saw it at NECG but I had know idea that Jim would blend it like that. As soon as I saw it I went back and looked at some vintage English rifles and that is excatly how they are installed.

Jim understands the details of building rifles espcially the English style. I let him choose the barrel contours, doing the custom talley bases, marking the serial numbers, picking the bolt knobs, and shaping the 1909 Arg bottom metal.
