This one has been in the works for a while, but is finally coming together. Titanium action that I've had for about a year, HEYM octagon barrel that I've had for over a year, and a Leupold LPS that's been here for a couple of years. Barreled action weighs 4-lb 6-oz, 5-lb 8-oz with the scope and rings. Hopefully the stock (synthetic) will come in at @ 1.5 lbs... I'd like to keep it all at 7 lbs or a bit below.

New Guy: Impeccable taste you have. Is that Ti action one of Stu Satterlee's? Had one once. Sold it. Stupid me. Jordan

7x57
I've been giving that some thought too. Because of the integral bases, I'm married to the Talley's. The 30mm LPS, however, is a heavyweight, but it's just sitting here (and is paid for.) I'll have to check the weight of a vx3 2.5x8. That would undoubtedly be a lighter choice.
Yes, it is. | |||

That will be a very fine rifle. I do love octagon barrels........... They are right up there with color case hardening, and Mannlicher stocks, and Winchester Low Walls, and good looking wimin. Don

Go with the LPS for now. If you don't like it after carrying it for a week you can always swap it out.

Egad!! All that beauty, and you're putting it in a SYNTHETIC stock??? That's like Marilyn Monroe in a pair of muck boots. AAArgh!

I've struggled with that too, but I want to use it on a hunt this summer. I can get a synthetic stock quickly and be shooting it before May 1. A wood stock I can't turn around that fast. Maybe someday it could have both???

And more proportionally sized to a rifle of this type. Nice looking barrelled action. Lots of octagon barrels on here these days. Forrest NRA Life Member GOA Life Member Distinguished Rifleman President's Hundred

Chris great looking action. Stu really does fine work. Is it a 7x57 or a 275 Rigby? Decisions..decisions... "A long life, and the good sense to live it." ...Quintis Arrius 375H&H,404J,416DAK,458AFR,416RIG,450RIG,505GIB Avatar: Gregory Peck & Susan Hayward in Africa NRA member

I vote for 275 Rigby. Chris, you've done a fine job with the polishing of that barrel. I think you are really going to enjoy that rifle. An honest to god low recoil ammo burner. shoot'em up. Stu

Nice work. My M98 rifle in 7x57, I finished last year. Here same pic´s. I used a Heym barrel and a Mauser action made in 1937. My plan was to get a custom stock, like a stock I saw in an old gun digest, but my budget was at end. So, I bought this hogue rubber stock. Now, I´m very satisfeed with this decision. The only problem is, the Heym barrel only likes expensive bullets, like TiG, Nosler or so. With cheap soft point, the groups are not under 1,5". Martin
