Why were some of the 03A3's made with a mauser type bolt release in addition to a magazine cut off and others with just the magazine cut off that served dual duty as bolt release also? Is there a different military designation for the 2 types? When was each model made and why?

oddball, Re: your hybrid action. Is the entire bolt stop assembly attached by one screw located about 2 inches forward from the rear end on the left side wall?. If so does the receiver ring have the full military designation, to include Model 1903A3 and a serial number in either the 3 or 4 million range? How about posting a picture? To have the rotating, flag type cut-off/bolt stop PLUS a mauser type bolt stop indicates a very clever bit of design work, particularly for an armament designed for the battlefield.
As it would appear, I have gone completly insane! Not only did someone remove that bolt release from my rifle they also have removed all evidence of it ever exsisting. Or possibly my memory has given up on me entirely. I humbly apologize to all concerned.
