Guys,

After 18 months I received my permit for my 500 Jeff.

I now have to give Truvelo instructions on what I want in the barrel.

Meaning dimensions.

I want the barrel to be 22 inches but have no idea on the profile I need.

With the big game rifles the barrel has to heavier than a standard rifle but it also have to be balanced.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Gerhard

i have done three.. they are TOUGH to get to feed .. i mean seriously hard

pacnor 6 is a good pattern, but your rifle will wind up less than 10 pounds with a good sized stock

remember, the difference is that the .510 hole vs a .308 (or whatever) hole... you want it to be slightly nose heavy..

a 23" is better for the 500 jeffe

most people are better served with a 10-11# rifle, xbolts and wrist pin, recoil lug on the barrel, and fully bedded

make your stock .5 or .75 longer than you think you like, and you will be FAR happier than if it just barely fits you...

You may or may not be able to do this, but I believe that CZ is now making the 550 in 500 Jeff. If you could import that rifle, it would be set up to feed already, or take a lot less work to get to feed than building one from scratch, so to speak. You could rebarrel if you want, and restock. You might be able to get a barreled action, and save some money that way.
Just a thought that might save you some time and money.

Thanks,

Its a good idea but with the gun laws in South Africa that would mean applying for a new permit and another 24 months waiting period.

Would rather build one from scratch.
