I would like to hear how everyone else here managages to open up a barrel channel in the stock. I just bought a new stock for my ADL, but it is too narrow. I dont want to take a chance using a dremel tool, and putting a big gouge in my stock. Please provide me with your input. Thanks...Marmothunter

Forget the Dremel. Use gouges or scrapers . You can get these at Brownells.

Get a barrel channel scraper. Two handled versions by Gunline work well.

I used a Demel tool....slowly and it worked just fine. Or you can use 80to100 grit sandpaper.

For me it would depend on how much wood has to be removed. If it is 1/16" or more (on each side), I would trace the new barrel outline on top of the stock and rough out most of the wood with spoon chisels and barrel channel rasp. Then spot the barrel in with inletting black and scrapers, for a tight wood-to-barrel fit. "There are only three kinds of people; those who can count, and those who can't."
