Hello all,

I bought a very lightly used Remington Titanium in 308. My question is has anyone had any trouble with getting these rifle and specically the 308 to shoot? I had been told that due to SAAMI specs and the mag box length that the 308 was tough to get to shoot to MOA. I am not sure if this is accurate so I pose the question here.

Thanks again,

ddj

You need to get a new source for your info. He/She clearly doesn't know what they're talking about.

Hi,

What would magazine length have to do with accuracy I would ask myself. SAAMI specifications have to do with the chamber. Most all firearms will shoot, even with the wrong ammunition, only once, in some cases.

Luck,

Stephen

I was told the SAAMI specs are for a 180 gr bullet and the mag doesn't allow for the bullet to be seated to the lands on a 308.

I was asking the question here because I knew I would get correct information.

Thanks guys,

ddj

Great rifle. I have a Ti in 30-06.

Don't be discouraged if you aren't shooting tiny 3 or 5 round groups. In my rifle, out of a cold, dirty barrel, the first two are almost touching, but the light barrel heats up quickly; the third shot opens the group size an inch. I was a bit puzzled at first until I realized the third shot was always the 'flier'.

Enjoy your new rifle!

Hi dj, I had one in a .270WIN for a while and found the rifle extremely hard to shoot. The rifle was accurate but it was just too damn light to hold steady. After a little practice I could put the front rest under the front action screw, sink the butt in a soft bag rest and rest my left hand on the scope, then I could steady the rifle well enough to shoot a good group. When the season opened I cleanly missed two deer in a row with that rifle and sold it soon after.

I decided it was better for me to be burdened with a little heavier rifle that I could actually shoot well.

I'm not saying that's your problem, but that was my experience with the Remington Ti.

I think the newer Remington Ti (Alaskan) uses a heavier barrel which probably helps steady it a lot better than the 1st generation Ti's.

I suggest you shoot it then ask questions, if needed.

YES - I have/had a .30-06 and the one is tricky to shoot at all, but if it works a more then great rifle!

Mistakes I had:
1.) Barrel was fouled: brush and clean very strong with chemical cleaner

2.) Glass bed and free float the stock

3.) Screws of the stock got loose: Check that they are tightened well and secure them with Loctite

4) Barrel need cleaning after about 20-25 shots, otherwise accuracy goes down

5) after 1000 shots my barrels life was ended as flakes broke out at the muzzle -> got a new barrel in .270 Win now and I am very happy with this

Here a picture of mine including my slef-made Titanium Scope Mount:
