I've got a Tristar sxs shotgun that one of the cocking levers broke at the screw hole. Appears to be very poor steel and very crude workmanship but want to get it working again.
Will 4140 steel work as replacement material? If not suggestions.
Thanks

I would probably make it out of 4350. It's tough and the stuff is a little easier to backwoods heat treat.

Those Spanish and Turkish clones are pretty junky. I call them "toasters" and won't work on them because I have no source of parts for them. Use them until they break and throw them away.
Sorry. I guess that's kinda mean, but I don't know of any way to pretty up or sugar coat information like that.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

Appreciate the input. I'll change my approach.
No argument regarding the quality and no offense taken. I've already called it appropriate names and questioned its ancestry. Two broken firing pins too.
Difference is I've got the time. Keeps me off the streets.

How old is it? They have a 5 yr warranty and a quick turnaround and good repair work based on my experience. It's kinda what do you expect for such a low price? Their semi-auto and O/U guns have performed well in my shop vs Browning and Benelli. I have to send back 10% of my Browning guns due to mfg defects. They don't even have spare parts. I've never had a Tristar gun take more than two weeks for a repair. Compare that to three Browning guns that have been out more than 8 months because no repair parts are available.

I will make a call to Tristar.
This shotgun has to be 15 to 20 years old. I bought it used in Alaska sometime in the late 90's.
The cocking levers and hammers all seem to be incredibly soft. File cuts easily.
Will certainly try to get parts if available.
Thanks
