Anyone done one? I will not pay $50 for something I can make better in a half hour on the mill.

The rifle is a Turk. My plan right now is to remove the sight and replace it with a block that fits the same. The block will then receive a Weaver generic sight base rail. The red dot sight goes on that. The barrel gets repaced with a 16" 45ACP one, but that is irrelevent. Do you have anything to pass along from your experience with such work? Any on line pictures?

If you're going to rebarrel anyway why not just bolt the Weaver base directly on the barrel? If you plan ahead you can even have the new barrel turned to a radius that fits an existing base (think Contender or Encore). Good hunting!

Yes, I did it once with an Argentine Mauser that was too nice to butcher up. Put a intermediate-eye relief scope on it. It worked, but was unsatisfactory in other ways (weight, balance, clumsiness, etc.)

waveIf you send me your E-Mail Add. I'll send you some photos of mountings I've done on the Mauser rear sights to mount scopes. There is an alum. one on the market that I saw fail miserably. The ones I've designed are of steel. thumbroger

This is what I am assembling. Click on the Mauser kit. It is for a co-worker. It is a bit crude. The price is low though. I guess you get what you pay for. It is about the most econimical way to make a 45ACP bolt gun.

I would much rather see a full length barrel. I would guess they are getting two barrels out of one blank. I also do not care for the Savage style barrel nut. Hey, it is a project to keep busy with and some goodies traded to me for my work.

The reason for using a sight base mount is that the new barrel is made to the same contour as the old. The sight base will slip on and solder in place. I hope to retain some of the military look.

Here is a 45acp Mauser I made in 1999 with a 1903 Turk, a Shilen .452" barrel blank, drilling a tapping for Weaver mounts #45 and #46, bending the bolt with an Oxyaccetalene set up. Shoots a 4" 20 shot group at 100m.

You can buy a bent bolt body on Ebay. There is a guy who does hundreds of them.
