I have a large ring Mauser 98 action I was thinking of making into a 6.5X55 the action is for a 7 X 57/30-06 lenght cartridge. Could it work for the smaller caliber? Never rode a bull, but have shot some. NRA life member NRA LEO firearms instructor (retired) NRA Golden Eagles member

You want a longer standard action rather than a short action for the swede and its long bullets to get full benifit of the cartridge. Winchester used a standard length action for the swede. I think the swede mauser actions are the "intermediate" length.

Your action will work fine. The Swede has a max COL of 3.15" the `06 3.34", and the 7x57 3.065". ------------------------------------ The trouble with the Internet is that it's replacing masturbation as a leisure activity. ~Patrick Murray "Why shouldn`t truth be stranger then fiction? Husqvarna and Mauser built some sporters on M98 actions. The standard hunting load here in Sweden is still a 156 grs RN, and that makes a very long cartridge. And efficient, too. Regards, Fritz The true and only Fritz Kraut
