6.5X55 action lenght
I have a large ring Mauser 98 action I was thinking of making into a 6.5X55 the action is for a 7 X 57/30-06 lenght cartridge. Could it work for the smaller caliber?

You want a longer standard action rather than a short action for the swede and its long bullets to get full benifit of the cartridge. Winchester used a standard length action for the swede. I think the swede mauser actions are the "intermediate" length.

Your action will work fine. The Swede has a max COL of 3.15" the `06 3.34", and the 7x57 3.065".

Oh good I thought it might but having not worked with the 6.5X55 was not sure.
Thanks

Husqvarna and Mauser built some sporters on M98 actions. The standard hunting load here in Sweden is still a 156 grs RN, and that makes a very long cartridge. And efficient, too.
