If you were to choose between these two actions:

A Kimber 84M Action with a new bolt handle.
Or 1910 Mexican with new bottom metal, surface grinding and all the usual Mauser fix-ups.

To be chambered in .250 Savage, long thoated to use mostly 120gn bullets.

The Kimber is small, light and a would little less expensive. (would start with a Kimber 22-250 and get new barrel, bolt handle and stock).

The 1910 is a real Mauser. Thats always a good thing. It's a little bit longer & probably a little heavier.
Both would get custom bases.

Which one would you pick and why

If I didn't already have the Mexican I would sure give the Kimber a try. I wish they would go ahead and chamber the 84m in .250 Savage. I would be inclined to buy one then.

Mexican. Very classy when done right.

Use the Mexican. It will have a nicer bolt handle if someone like Dennis Olson welds one on and makes some custom mounts for it. I'd opt for conetrols.

A Dakota 3 position safety and some Blackburn bottom metal and you are on your way to 3Xs what a Kimber costs?

Damn tough choice! bewildered

+1 Don, the cost of a Mexican is going to be pricey done right. Timan has my Mex, and the cost is not cheap, but great work never is.

Yeah, the Mexican will, I figure will cost about 2 to 2.5 times as much as the Kimber but as fla3006 says would be a classy set-up done right.Of course if I'm gonna do I want to do it right!

Will the Mexican be way to big/long for the .250 Savage? Not that it can't be made to work but would it be out of proportion.Or will it be a nice fit.

That was the main reason for thinking about the Kimber as it being smaller.

By the way I talked to LW and they can make a #5130 contour scaled down for the .250 Savage.

I really can't see why you wouldn't go the Kimber, especially given the economics...???

A nicer bolt handle is a given, since you said you were gonna replace that either way. I've seen a few customs on a Kimber and they are pretty slick. Of course so is anything Timan does...

The Mex is a better fit for the 257 Bob than a 250 Savage. The Kimber is a better fit, so is a Remington Model 7 or 600

Allen, I did the long throated .250-3000 last year. With the Speer 120gr, psp bt. , the max. oal is 2.725". The bullet is seated so the junction of the neck to shoulder falls in the middle of the boat tail. This was the cartridge I supplied Shaw for gaging when they cut the chamber. beerroger
