As my supply of Jerrow’s inletting was getting low, my search of Brownells site yielded nothing. I called them and the respondent said to use lipstick. They don’t carry any inletting black. Any suggested formulae? Vaseline and artist’s black? Gun grease and acraglas dye? Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two

I go down to the Auto parts store and buy a tube of Prussian Blue Then refill the Old Herters container that I bought in the 70's I use one of the long handled Q tips to apply to the metal J Wisner

Kokopelli Products was the supplier of Jarrows inletting Black and Gold. That company is gone, has new owners and inletting black/gold is no longer cataloged. It is no more! Prussion Blue marking compound works. Vaseline mixed with a dye will work. Most gun grease is too thin.

I have a jar of Brownells black colored powder, like a leather die or something. I mix it with vaseline, works great. I have used black lipstick, given to me by moms, confiscated from their daughters!

I agree with Jim Wisner, Prussian Blue is the best. I learned about it from Clayton Nelson. Buy it at your local auto supply, apply it with a tooth brush. Lasts forever. Craftsman

Brownells has stopped carrying a lot of things. I don't find myself going to their website much if any at all.

It hurts to look in there online “catalogue”. A reminder that the world I love is gone. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown

Does Brownells still do their dealer discount. I had it but it went away without them even asking to renew it. Seems to me that after Brownells bought the AR15.com forum things changed.

Whatever dye Jerrows used was mighty potent. When I found that they were gone, I took about a fingernail sized scoop and put it in a small glass jar and started adding Vaseline to it, ended up about 10-1 and it was still black as night and works great!
