Im bummed out. I just bought a nice Redfield 5 star scope in excellent condition for my 260 rem built on a mauser action. It has been drilled and tapped for weaver bases. The issue is that the scope objective has such a long taper that I am unable to move the scope back far enough to properly position it to my eye. I have tried a couple different rings and am using the ones that allow the most rearward movement. Any suggestions? All I can think of at this point is to remove a bit off the rear of the stock to get my eye a bit closer.

several solutions --
can you flip the front mount? will that give you 1/4" ?

you can have someone cut you a custom front base that extends to the rear - i've had to do this a couple times.

millet rings, iirc, are pretty thin

find a set of rings with 1 screw, and machine off 1/3 of the rear ring

send scope back..

set of rings bored to take the taper (or a bit more) and slide back

custom rear bridge is unlikely

How much are you going to need to move the scope to make it comfortable?

Get a weaver 402 base it is an extension base.

Some companies offer extension rings too.
