I have been looking for Mexican Mausers, but it is not wise to get in to deep without proper knowledge. (Which I am lacking) Can someone help me understand a few Questions?

What are the differences between a 1910 and a 1936?

I was told not to buy one with a hole on the left side of the reciever. Is that true?

Buy a Mexican with a shallow thumb groove and no knurled firing pin?

What is the concensus?

Thanks
ddj

Here is what I understand:

Hole in the left side + knurled cocking knob = 1936

No hole + no cocking knob = 1910

I have never heard strong views expressed for one versus the other, both are nice. Many like the knurled cocking knob.

Now the real experts can weigh in.

I'm no expert but I think most guys prefer the 1910 version with no gas port and shallow thumb cut. Here's a dandy that belongs to Butch Lambert:

That is a beautiful rifle!

Did all the 1910's have a shallow thumb groove?

Also, what are guys using for bottom metal?

Thanks as always,

Daron

A quick picture of Mausers. 1936 on top and 1910 on bottom.

Andy at Sunney Hill is to have a new run of guards ready to ship 8/12/08.
