Let say for a minute that I had to build a rifle and I wanted it to be 11.2mm (.440") say the 11.2x72 Schuler. Who makes barrels? RNS

Well, where to start..... Somewhere along the line I found an 11.2x60 shuler cartridge. That started the idea in my slightly twisted brain I should build one. Mcgowen is the only one who lists a .440 barrel. In the mean time I ordered an 11.2x60 reamer ( another long story told under a reamer thread). Received the reamer, dies from C&H, made up cases, got a nice RCBS mold that drops right at .440. All this took time, but after 8 months or so, that Mcgowen had my money, they said they misplaced their .440 tooling and had to re-order it. Another stretch of time goes by, the barrels arrived last week. They list the size as .432 and .440, had the reamer made to that size etc etc. A slug through the barrel measures .430 and .436. After some choice words and the desire to throw it in the river, I've clamed down and will call Mcgowen to see what they say. To be continued.........

RNS, I can see the .440 on the bullets but not the weight, what are you making there? If I get things sorted out, and you want to join a very small club, you can use my reamer anytime.

450gr I called McGowen and asked about getting the barrel and they said 16 weeks. I just asked them about it being a true .440" and they had all the tooling needed since its a odd caliber and they said yes. So I'm interested in what you hear back. RNS

Took a little cut off the ends, both pins and a slug turned up proper numbers. The project is back on!!!

That's great news. How long of a blank did you order and how much did you cut off each end to get the correct dimension? RNS

It was a 28" tube, took off 1/2" each end, although it was only the muzzle that had the damage/funky-ness to it.

Jeffe I think a 440 would be a nice addition to the 550. RNS

My 11.2 x60 project is under way. I have Woodleigh, Hawk and a special order RCBS bullet mold that drops them right at .440 and 385 grns. A revival of the old Shuler rounds, I love it!!

I have GS USA making both HV and FN bullets for me. I have a 11.2x72 Schuler. These probably will work in the 11.2x60 also. Jim
