It was tough getting this out of the bolt body. The spring appears too long. Off a j-lock rem 700 300 mag which had the j lock removed.
Is this going to be a performance or reliability issue?

my J-lock rem had the exact same spring. worked fine for 13 years in my 7RM. still had no issues, i changed it just because.

i ordered a new firing pin assembly and shroud from PTG. the new shroud is shorter without the J-lock.

I did read that eventually your firing pin "could" experience issues, because there is a cutout in the back of the pin where the J-lock cammed over and locked the pin back. that is why i replaced mine, no cutout (weak point) in the new one.

As I recall, all of the 700s looked like that for a couple of years. I've never seen it present a problem other than it looks like it should present a problem. I suppose on the older ones and the current models, the spring is supported and guided by the OD of the firing pin and it works just fine. On those ones, the spring is supported and guided be the ID of the bolt body and it works just fine.
