I have a Huskvarna that has claw mounts and rings on it. It came with a Nichols 2 1/2 power scope in 26mm. I would like to put something like a Leopold 1 to 5 power on it. Can that be done with shims. The back ring is split but the front split only on the top requiring a straight scope body to fit. I have looked for a variable 26 mm. scope but to no avail. Welcome to AR

Might be better if you posted a photo of what you have so those in the know can evaluate what you should do!.

Hi Mori and welcome, haven't seen you since my ASSRA days! You can use a shim of ~0.020"-0.025" thickness, wrap it almost all the way around the scope body and the rings should clamp down OK.

I believe the last 26mm scope made in this country was the old Kollmorgen that later became Redfield. I had a nice 26mm 6X Kollmorgen back in the '60s, had fairly good optics but poor lens coating and a non-centered reticle.
Regards, Joe

The difference btwn 26 mm and one inch is about .023 (.011xxx radius) Can't belive that you would not be able to remove enough metal to make a tight fit on split rings

Many Euporean mfgs sell rings as "26mm/1 inch"

Mr Wiebe has a good point, I have done this a few times when it was feasible and is worth the effort for a nice set of rings. A VERY light reaming and/or a lap after closing the gap and they might turn out rather well. Worth your looking into it..................
