mori shultz26mm rings
I have a Huskvarna that has claw mounts and rings on it. It came with a Nichols 2 1/2 power scope in 26mm. I would like to put something like a Leopold 1 to 5 power on it. Can that be done with shims. The back ring is split but the front split only on the top requiring a straight scope body to fit. I have looked for a variable 26 mm. scope but to no avail. Mori Shultz

22WRFWelcome to AR
Might be better if you posted a photo of what you have so those in the know can evaluate what you should do!.

J.D.SteeleHi Mori and welcome, haven't seen you since my ASSRA days! You can use a shim of ~0.020"-0.025" thickness, wrap it almost all the way around the scope body and the rings should clamp down OK.
I believe the last 26mm scope made in this country was the old Kollmorgen that later became Redfield. I had a nice 26mm 6X Kollmorgen back in the '60s, had fairly good optics but poor lens coating and a non-centered reticle.

Duane WiebeThe difference btwn 26 mm and one inch is about .023 (.011xxx radius) Can't belive that you would not be able to remove enough metal to make a tight fit on split rings
Many Euporean mfgs sell rings as "26mm/1 inch"

JuglansregiaMr Wiebe has a good point, I have done this a few times when it was feasible and is worth the effort for a nice set of rings. A VERY light reaming and/or a lap after closing the gap and they might turn out rather well. Worth your looking into it..................
