I am not looking for any discussion on the CRF vs. PF arguement. Also, I dont need any input on the bolt handle, extractor issues. All that aside, I would appreciate honest feedback on actual purchases from the Remington Custom Shop in their C Grade rifles. thanks Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

the absolute worst actions I have ever seen were on Remington Custom Shop rifles. the recievers are consitently more out of square than on 700's bought at WalMart. Put them in a lathe ran dstart measuring and you will see what i am talking about. I don't know why it happens, but it does. The whole guns are like that and really suck pretty much all around-barreling, crowns, bedding, etc. How much does a C grade cost? If you spent that with a private custom gunmaker you can get a MUCH better product.

I have 1 700c, 4 700ks, 1 7ms.. my hunting partner has 2c's, 1 gr. 11 & 1 apr. These were all bought used and I think a used custom shop rifle is a very good deal. I paid $600.00 for my 30'06 c in like new condition 3 years ago. It has a very nice oil finished stock with a good amount of figure. It is a steady 1" rifle with out any work done on it. My partners "c"'s are the same, his grade 11 300 h&h is really nice.

I just had a m700ks bought for $200 in a pawn shop blueprinted & rebarreled by a well known South Carolina gunsmith. I had read a simular post to the above so I asked him to let me know how far the action & lugs were out, his responce was about the same as any m700. All my Remington ks's are sub 1" rifles ^ the '06 is an honest 1/2" rifle. On the other side the 7ms I bought for %500 had it's forend cap installed improperly & the gun gave 2.5" patterns but when it was fixed I have a neat 1" rifle. Again I have never bought a new custom shop rifle. I have had 1 contact with the custom shop and they did what they said they were going to do on time & at the price we agreed upon. I lost the bolt to a 280ks & they replaced it.

had a remington 458 win mag from the custom shop, bought it cheap, as it was obvious it was somone's "flying" rifle.. front sight broken off, dings and bangs.... extracted the broken front screw, sanded out the bigger dings, replaced the front sight, and it shot about MOA, iirc, fed great, and with it's HUGE barrel, was pleasant to shoot. traded it away.... jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? I occasionally get stuff in my shop that has come from their custom shop, and from what I've seen, I ain't impressed. What I wan't to know is why they can't get a simple crown right??? Is it too much to ask??? It ain't rocket science! On second thought, since we're talking about launching projectiles, I guess it is rocket science. And therefore probably too much to ask.

Thanks for the honest responses. Some good, some negative, so my other option may be to get a Rem 700 CDL and have it rebarreled and tweaked a little. Anyone have any experience with Hill Country Rifles for this type of work. Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

Hikerbum, My hunting buddy has an AWR .338 Mag from the custom shop that I have shot and played with a bit. Not sure if that's what you mean by C Grade. It's actually a very nice rifle. Light weight and nicely finished with I think a teflon over stainless steel finish. It's very accurate and the action is slick as snot. The only negative is that it wasn't quite right out of the box and it took a trip to Mark Penrod to set it right. Unfortunately I can't recall exactly what the issue was.

The c grade is more of a standard wood BDL with a highly upgraded stock and nice finish. Thanks for the feedback. Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

I only have one Rem CS product at the moment...a 700-C '06 built in the late 70's/early 80's. It it has very nice wood, is carefully finished all over, inside and out, and shoots factory ammo into groups of an inch or smaller. I am quite satisfied with it for the price I paid. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
