Solvent for LOCTITE 271?
Hello all,

Is there a solvent that will remove cured LOCTITE 271? I just removed the bases from a rifle's receiver ring and bridge and there is some residue from the LOCTITE under them.

Thanks a lot!

Good hunting,
Jim

You might try Carb Cleaner, I use Wally World brand and it has removed Loc-Tite for me quite a few times. Not sure which Loc Tite it was. Didn't hurt the bluing either.

Heat. Try a hot air gun. Acetone may also work.

A wet rag and fingernail, I've found water seems to dissolve thread lockers better than petroleum based solvents.

Loctite 271 is a saccharin based thread locker. Yes, the same stuff in diet soda. Hot water usually does the trick. If you need to, methylene chloride is the manufacturer recommended remover. Paint/varnish removers often have methylene chloride in them.

We use a lot of this in the steel mill, and I clean it up a lot when we tear into equipment.
