Well, Being IN Texas helps!!

We were at HogKiller's house, after a bubba shoot (and all that entails) sitign around loading a true wildcat round... no dies, no shell holder, no trimming tool for fireformed brass, and no seating tool..

First we fireformed the brass, in a supreme bubba rifle (rimmed round in a bolt gun, single shot, hogged out stock, etc) ..

Then forrest, keith, gene and I fired the forming loads."it's snowing in a texas summer"

then I trimmed with a file... and got them all just about 3.00"

we, ah, hmm, reloaded them....

and shot them... (see my avatar... gene caught a fireball from it)

We sat around some time after, and we said "you know, we are certainly a bunch of bubbas!!" (laughs all around) then someone said

"we band of bubbas"

there it is...

Basically it's this big bore shooter bunch of friends.. and bubbas is used as being the texas friendly nickname, and frankly, that we aint hoytietoytie!!!

458 lott is considered a light medium!!!

A comical twist on the words from Shakespeare's Henry the 5th. before the Battle of Agincourt (1415), where he supposedly said during a speech to encourage his ill and outnumbered soldiers, "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,". Shakespeare used poetic license because he wrote the play nearly 200 years after the battle. Sturing words, though, and well worth the read. I like the "We band of bubbas" equally well, having a warped sense of humor myself.

I remember the day I became "bubba" very clearly. My 1 year old grandson was trying very hard to say "grandpa", and it became bubba! That was 9 years ago, and all the grandkids think "bubba" is my name!!! I really like rifles, and shooting, hope that makes it OK!!!!! Smiler

Yep,

jeffe and Forest have it pretty well covered, as to the origins of "We Band of Bubbas".

DRSS, has their "We Band of Brothers", and we made our own little change for the big bore shooters, who shoot here at the place.

Vast herds of plastic jugs have died to the hail of fire from the Bubbas Big Bore shooting of, .458s to .550s. They will do amazing things to those jugs. Beats the hell out of punching paper targets.

And its not like we can call ourselves "We Band of Mensas" or "We Band of PhDs"; although I would not be surpised if there is a closet genius or two amongst the bunch.

Only thing I think was missed is that we have
no idea what it is like to finish a shoot without a headache. Big Grin But it is so much fun, and makes for a great day out.

A grand bunch fo fellows they are, too!
No BS just good men who are great to be around!

Oh, and for what's it's worth. . .

Henry V, Act 4 Scene 3
Westmoreland-
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!
King Henry-
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin:
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires:
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England:
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more, methinks, would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made
And crowns for convoy put into his purse:
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian:'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's day.'
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Henry V William Shakespeare, C.1599

Jim, we haven't really answered your original question. I guess membership is automatic. You're either a bubba or you're not. My take on your signature says you are.

This has always been my favorite part:

And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Regardless of the above referenced qualifications, I'd bet my next paycheck that membership includes some reference, some usage, some homage, some drinking, of alcohol. God, I wish I was there............. ;-)

"We Band of Bubbas", share these traits: wave

.40+ cal. rifle with KO of 45+
Must shoot it often.
Be good companion and SAFE shooter.
Enjoys the company of like minded shooters.
The Bubba shoots are informal plinking sessions with big bore rifles. This is not long range paper punching, usually.
Shares guns and ammo with others, lets them try something new/different. (eg: See if they can take MEGA recoil,eg .50-.55cal.)
Lastly, like jeffe said, beer and or single malts, do not come out until the rifles are put up for the day.

Hog Killer

PSFrownermouse guns can also be used, but they are not the focus of the day, as big bores RULE clap)

And a grand bunch of bubba's it is. If I show up with the .50 Beowulf and a .458 Win. they all talk about the cute girly guns.

I wonder how many dead milk jugs are buried in back of Hog Killers place?
