I was interested in converting a Safari express classic 375 H&H to a 404 Jeffrey. What needs to be done other than a re barrel? Is the 375 a good candidate for a Jeffrey or is there a better caliber to choose.

Thanks

sell the 375 for big bucks

buy a 300rum m70
convert THAT to 404
have less trouble, and come out net AHEAD of ruining a 375 (very desiriable)

Jeff when you say less trouble, what do you mean? Isn't the 300 rum and 375 the same length action. Or is the mag box more or less suitable depending on the caliber?

Yea, find that guy and get some of what he's smoking, it's obviously good stuff.

Trying to sell a $900 rifle for $3600 doesn't make it worth $3600. 300 ultramag M70's are relatively plentiful and occasionally come up for sale pretty cheap. The reason they're preferred for the 404 conversion is the magazine box and follower are already correct, just screw on a barrel and it's ready to go. I saw one for sale for $540 a few weeks back on gunsamerica. I thought about buying it to stash in case I ever wanted to do a 404, but didn't want to sink the money into something I might never get around to doing.

3600 for a RUM?
Dude, there's smoke signlas coming out of his head...

900 TOPS

Now, you should be able to get alot for the 375... probably sell the 375, get the rum, and work done for about the same.

Now, the idiot on the 3600$ rum deal would NOT be the seller.....

That RUM is offered by Cabela's. Not exacly known for smokin deals but they are smokin wacky tobacky on that one. I will keep my eyes open for a cheap rum although I have less than a grand in my 375. Thanks

Because I have access to another 375 below 1k for cost and I thought a 404 jeffery would be nice to have.

FAST996,

Give me a call on Monday. We can discuss some options. A 404 is indeed nice to have.

if the safari express classic is a controlled feed, i'd be interested in trading a new, unfired stainless, m70 controlled feed .300 rum for it... winchester box, paperwork, redfield 2 piece bases, leupold med height rings.....then your .404 jeffery is only a barrel change away....pm me if interested....

go big or go home ........

A few weeks ago I saw a stainless synthetic M70 in 300 RUM for sale at Jerry's Sooting Supplies in Jackson, CA. Don't know the price. 209-223-3091. Ask for JW.

I imagine the supply of dope smoking M70 sellers will be drying up soon with M70s to be coming from South Carolina soon.

Depends on the quality. I would still stick with the ones that are below serial number G300,000. That way you know you are getting a decent one.

For some reason the South Carolina guns just won't be the same, atleast for me. Wink

From what I have seen of the pricing and initial offering of chamberings on the 'new' 70. Perhaps the prices will continue to rise. I bought a 70 in 300RUM in blue with wood stock (sporter) for $520.00. the day Winchester went down. Still new in box in my safe. Big Grin
