Is the FN a true commercial mauser, like the Interarms? Are they all the same or are some years better than others.
I came accross one in excellent condition, but know very little about the FN. It is a small ring, and was thinking of building a 220 swift.

As far as I know the FNs (Farqique Nationale) are all large rings.

As to building a Swift.....I couldn't get them to feed well in any of my Mausers....maybe you'll have better success than I did.

I thought FM was a radio band.

Anyway, FN did make Military mausers not milsurps, that was a function of the rifles being pulled out of service by the various countries. And, I seriously doubt FN made 11 million actions. The bulk of the actions they supplied were during the intra war period.

If it is a small ring commercial you've got me stumped because I've never run accross a SR commercial FN 98. They did make some military small rings - pre-98's. Are you perhaps confusing the action with a Husky?

Generally the most desirable FN comercials are those made immediately post war. They included the so-called "C" ring. Though, they also had some bolt issues due to FN arc welding on new handles and then rehardening the bolts. This resulted in an overly hardened bolt.

The Mk X was built in Yugoslavia on equipment from FN, at least that's what I'm told. The FN is a great action, my favorite I just shot my .338 on an FN this morning. I do not think a small ring commercial action was available, but I don't know everything. Measure the ring.

Small ring commercial FNs were used on a few Browning Safaris. I have never owned or examined one but am told they have standard size threads, meaning they are probably turned down large ring actions.

You have to specify "Small Ring" when you order scope bases for the small ring FN mauser. They were commercially available in .308 Win & 243 Win. The standard FN scope base will not fit the small ring FN action.

Thanks for all the replies! I just spoke with the seller and it is indeed a small ring. So by what I am hearing, it should be able to hanlde the 220 pressure?

Thanks again!

If this is the case then it will definitely handle the 220 swift pressures.

Yes, they were factory small ring FN Browning rifles. They are probably better known as "Pencil Barrels".
