As stated above, I don't think anybody has actually received any of the LH MkX (a.k.a. "Charles Daly") Mauser actions.

I have a right hand version, and although it is OK, it took quite a bit of work to get there. My choice would be the MRC action, as they seem to be slowly shipping in LH. They come with a 3-pos safety, way better than the MkX trigger safety. The MRC trigger can be safely adjusted down below what a M70 trigger can (manufactured better), plus your chances of getting one which is dimensionally sound is better than with a M70 (at least current M70 production).

I'm sure it's a 180 picture of a right-hand action, CL. I doubt they would maufacture the floorplate release on the left side for their lefties.

To my knowledge.....and also indicated on their website (ETA).....they have neither lefties nor stainless.

That said, I think you might be happier with your other choices....M-70 Classic or the MRC 1999. Presuming the Charles Daly Zastava's are on par with the previous Mark X's, they aren't bad actions......but I think the other two are better.......finish, safety, and trigger certainly.

A left handed, stainless mauser action? No such animal. Charles Daly is off in fantasy land.

In all seriousness, don't believe that they are making these until someone actually is holding one in their hands.
Charles Daly has been promising these for several years now, and I personally don't think Zastava in Yugoslavia is up to the challenge. I hope they prove me wrong.

From their website:
Quote:

All the finest features of the time tested Mauser 98 Bolt Action are incorporated and refined in the full-size actions. A full-length claw extractor provides controlled feeding plus positive extraction for excellent reliability, and dual opposed forward locking lugs provide time-tested strength and safety. Refinements to the action include a two position positive sliding safety located on the side of the receiver and an adjustable trigger with a serrated blade face.

The Mini-Mauser actions employ a Sako-style extractor with a full-length bolt guide, while the remaining features match those of their full-size counterparts.

These actions are offered in unfinished white chrome-nickel steel and matte stainless steel with both drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Even so-called minor parts are machined from forgings, including a one-piece steel trigger guard and hinged steel floorplate. For the utmost in strength, the bolt handle and bolt are machined from one solid forging.

Anyone know about the Charles Daly Mauser actions- they seem interesting for a left-handed person like me wanting a stainless steel action. Look at the pic:

At $409, it seems like good value- but how much would it cost for a very good smith to make it function real nice and smooth etc? Would you do this over a MRC or M-70 action? For left hand, it is only available up to 30-06- does this mean it can be modified for any 30-06 length cartridge??

I picked up a copy of Shotgun News a few months ago. There is a full-page ad in there for Charles Daly actions and barrelled actions. I'm a lefty; I saw several barrelled actions in stainless to be available toward the end of the summer. Too bad I don't have all the info available to me right now.

Charles Daly was out of the loop for several years because of some international trade crapola that didn't get voted on by our Congress. I think it's a past issue now, but I could be wrong.

As for me, I have a stainless magnum action on order with MRC and am content to wait until they deliver a fine product. Given all the input from wackos like those of us who frequent these boards, it should be very good.
