Boyd's Gunstocks...New Company Direction

I was on Boyd's site today to order something, and got a shock...

they are taking a "new marketing direction"...

I talked to an "operator" who was clueless, if not a "short bus student".....

They were busy trying to push me toward a "dealer" to purchase anything..

however, evidently they are canning a bunch of different stock offerings....
I seriously wonder if we home types are going to be out of the loop.. and there goes one of the best deals for the home gun crank out the window...

Spending many many years in sales... the words " a new marketing direction" has never meant anything more to me than more red tape, higher prices, smaller number of choices, bad customer service, long waits and just some more general Marketing MBA screw ups....Like having a Masters Degree in Stupid!

I just hope Boyds is not entering the world of " they USE to be a real good company to do business with"

a good company to deal with? I dealt with them over a POS Garand stock they sold me. a "new marketing direction" for boyds must be good, as the only way for them to move is up. hopefully, they are selling the operation and firing everybody. their stocks often suck, and their customer service would dissuade dr. goebbels.

good riddance, I say.

i bought a pepper laminate jrs sporter earlier this year... very plleased with the result... i'll buy more.... when i talked to "dorothy".. the lady that handled the transaction, she was able to answer all my questions... she even emailed me pics of another stock to show the detail... a couple months later i call for another catalog and was told that from now on all sales would be off of their website...and that they were discontinuing some lesser models...as long as they keep making stocks for the p17 enfield and model 70's i'll be a happy camper....

ol'crip.. that price is for one that has been finished...

we will see what happens in the long run.. I just hope a good thing didn't get ruined... I have ordered about 20 or so stocks from them over the years.. for myself and a few others.... only two bad ones, and they corrected the problems..

Up until a month or two ago, I watched their scrap pile daily - and had picked up a number of stocks at good prices. All of a sudden, overnight, the long list of items goes to very few items - The same stocks started showing up on ebay under a ebay store. I think they are making Remington stocks now as I have bought a few before their change up. Maybe business has gotten to good to mess with the little stuff.

New website and higher prices...same schitty product.

Hopefully a marked increase in QC will be part of the implementation of their "new direction". Because ya know...there's nothing like finishing a Boyd's stock and then applying 3lbs of Acra-gel to fill in the bedding and forearm gap areas. My experience with the three Boyd's stocks I've tinkered with was underwhelming to say the least.

Good luck to 'em! I think the rest of my stocks will either be synthetic or turned by stockmaker that actually knows what the hell he's doing.

I have received phone calls from Boyd's that were right out of central casting for slime ball salesmen.

That's a shame. I didn't mind doing some finishing work for $69 stock but I sure as hell won't pay $173 for the same crap and still have to final finish it. Time to move on to someone new. coffee

I just got through sending back a checkering cradle to them that they failed to fix sloppy work on two different times. The customer service person was quite nice but quality of their work is terrible and after I explained what needed to be corrected on the first one sent back, they shipped it out with the same problems as before and a couple extra. No more future orders to them.

I sent them an email, explaining that I didn't like being sent to a distributor/dealer/middleman.
tripling price "overnight" was unacceptable
not caring about the customer
and frankly, i don't give a rat's if they are undercutting their dealers.. that is their DEALERS problem

that, and 2 bucks will get me a BLT

bullI think if they get this kind of respnse just from our forum, what is happening from the rest of the industry? thumbdown Their new direction just might bite their nose and hurt them financially. I for one will seek an alternative to Boyds. I'll be damned if I will pay an extra $94.00 to a middle man. coffee

called them about 30 minutes ago... was told to deal with some "dealers"...and that they had discontinued all the enfield (read p17) stuff... what was hinted was that if enough stocks were ordered ( like 16)then a run was possible.... i don't want to corner the market on pepper laminate jrs sporters, but i could use another, maybe 2....guess i'll go elsewhere....too bad... thumbdown

I have a JRS Sporter that was a takeoff from a factory "Deluxe" Howa 1500 on my Weatherby Vanguard. No complaints with its fit or finish. The factory stock on my Savage 12BVSS is obviously a Boyd's. No problems with it. Perhaps they do better work in big runs for factory original equipment stocks?

For those looking for a new company try Richards micro fit. Just got a stock from them and am very happy. Inletting was nice and tight. I was told 10 weeks and that is what it took. Only down side is they are hard to get in touch with.
