I know there are a few small bolt actions out there, paticularly those that chamber the .223, 7.62X39 and 22-250. I'm thinking of building a svelte 7 BR for my kids, and was wondering what the pros and cons of the various actions are. I know there is the charles daly and the CZ, but thought there might be another out there.

I think Sako is about your only other choice, unless you go to the specialist custom actions. See the thread just above for some good info.

I built a 6BR on a remington 722 action and it is an awesome rifle. 20 inch medium weight barrel in a Remington Synthetic stock and all matte finish. I used a 6mm Remington follower and cut about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch off of the front of the follower and used a 223 length magazine spring. One trick is to leave enough of the spring tabs on the bottom side of the front of the follower to hold the spring correctly. I put a block in behind the follower and spring and it feeds great.
Good luck with your project, you will love it when you get finished.

The Model 600 Remington (with a prettier bolt)or the Model 7 are pretty small by centerfire standards.

I'm thinking of getting of model 7 that would end up as a 7-08, and use it as a test bed for a 7br, then re-chamber to 7-08. If I like the 7br I'll build up one on a chas daly.

Thanks for the input.

I should add, Sav110s, Rem700s, and Win70s look like junk to me as much as the CZ .223s.

I want the rifle to a be a Mauser, and I am dissapointed when it is something less.

Ruger #1s I can tolerate just fine.
