Modifying the follower
On my Husky the magazine follower has an abrupt edge that stops the bolt when no rounds are present. Can I just grind or file this to an angle so it will allow the bolt to close? or am I missing something bigger?

No problem. That's what is customarily done!

about 30 degrees...

a belt sander will make this far easier, as followers can range, in hardness, from tin to woodpecker lips to lawyer's hearts
