I am curious as to the process of changing a Rem 700 Sendero chambered in 300 SAUM to a 300WSM. Thanks in advance.

honestly, you take the saum to the gun show and buy a wsm. The saum and wssm might be doable... a saum to wsm just aint worth the time money and effort

I appreciate your concern over time and effort but I would like to know the technical process for the conversion if you know it. If not maybe another smith will share some information with another member of the board.

Dwight,
sure enough.
first, determine if the bolt throw will be long enough to feed the longer round. Plan bolt stop modifications as required. wsm dummies will help

second get a wsm mag box from browells or winchester

third determine if wsm chamber will clean up the saum chamber

inlet stock for wsm box

recut chamber (probably will need to be pulled, cut, and timing paid careful attention to)

make bolt throw changes

work out feeding

reblue, if required

Jeffe,
Thanks for the detailed description of the process. There is little difference in overall length and diameter. What Winchester did was make the body longer to hold more powder with the shoulder and neck area shorter. The dia. of the WSM is only a couple thousanths bigger than the Saum. I tried some WSMs in the box already and they work fine. Thanks for increasing my knowledge.

Dwight
