Ruger MK II hingeplate trouble

I have had a couple of Ruger Mk II's that when I disassembe the floor plate snaps into place like it is supposed to and when I reassemble them, the floorplate is extremely difficult to snap back in place.

When in place that outside button is very hard to push in and release the floorplate.

Its like something is binding somewhere. I have two that do it and two that work just fine.

Any ideas as to the cause and a fix would be greatly appreciated. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks, Merg

It sounds like interference from the magazine box. Check the box to be sure it is seated properly.

yes.. try this.. loosen all the screws a full turn and see if it is now easier. i find the center screw sets the angle of the whole thing, IF the front screw allows the floorbplate to "close" without binding.

tighened the front and back screws .. then set the center screw to allow it to function correctly

opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club

The problem is the same one that affects all two piece bottom metal. There is some latitude in where the trigger guard can be tightened down. Too far forward and the floor plate will bind.

Loosen the two rear screws, the ones that hold the guard. Slide the guard as far to the rear as possible. Hold it there while you lightly tighten the screws. Close the floorplate. Snug the rear screw.

The angled front screw pretty much dictates where the floor plate will locate, so you don't have to worry about it. On a Model 70, you have to adjust the procedure to get the floor plate far enough forward.

That was the problem I usually had with mine. Then again I did get the magazine in a bind but that was after I converted it to a blind box.

As usual just my $.02

Along with every thing else don't over tighten the center screw Wink

Hey, Thanks a lot guys! Got it to work right doing what Jeffeosso said and then tightening like Mr. Pursell said.

I knew about getting the magazine box placement right and only to get the screw forward of the trigger guard just barely snug enough to hold. Many thanks to all.

I will go to work in a better mood now. Merg
