When MJS (Mike) posted about the Ray Price rifle he bought, he was kind enough to give me the contact in AZ for the other available rifle. Ray was my main mentor in building custom stocks and I have always wanted one of his guns. I called the shop in AZ and after a brief discussion, purchased it sight unseen. I did rely on Mike's assessment of it. He did say he was tempted to buy both and I know I would have given the opportunity. It arrived today.

Ray's son was disposing of his estate and took this rifle and the other back to AZ with him and that is how it ended up at the shop. I saw it almost completed but with a daughter in college, surplus funds were being spent at a pretty good rate at the University of Washington.

I have not shot it yet but I will report back when I do. It is chambered in .270 Winchester. I just may take it on a mule deer hunt with Forrest B, M1Tanker, Lawndart and Howard this fall. The rifle is unused but it will not stay that way.

Enjoy the photos. If superfluous items on a stock upset your sensiblities, just shield your eyes. He has incorporated some real gems.

Very nice. I'm glad to see that you ended up with it, as I think it will mean more to you than to many who might have purchased it.

Plastic may be practical, but you just can't beat the beauty of a well crafted wood stock, and this one is just gorgeous. What a beautiful classic cheekpiece!!!!

Chic: That is very nice work and really worth acquiring. I like the run of the grain through the grip. I hope you put it to use and give it some more history.

I love the checkering, especially around the pistol grip. I'm sure it will bring back lots of great memories as you hunt with it.

Congrats,

Chic,
That is one gorgeous rifle.I have been hoping for pics ever since you first told me about it.

If something should "happen" to you on the hunt this fall I will see that the rifle is well taken care of for you.

Chic,
Glad it is in the hands of someone who can appreciate it on the level you can. Still having second thoughts on not buying it as a companion to my .257 though ;o)! Thanks again for all the advice and information you provided.
Good hunting,
Mike

Chic,

From the looks of that rifle you had a really great teacher.

May a very big mule deer fall to it on your hunt with the AR gang!

Dave

Truely magnificent. The only reson I would shield my eyes from anything on that rifle would be to keep them from poppong out. Congratualtions. I can fully understand the sentimental value that rifle holds for you. Here's to a great hunt and fine memories.

Chic,
This is my idea of what a hunting rifle should look like. I really like the checkering.

Looking forward to updates on how it shoots once you take it to the range.

Chic,

Congrats! Nice rifle. I'm gla dyou could buy a rifle that obviously means a lot to you.

On a related note, thanks for posting the pics of a nice rifle sans open sights. It would make me feel better should I choose to leave them off my rifle. I suppose not every custom needs irons.

Good form, well done, and I can not think of a better place for a mentors rifle to end up, then with an apprentice that can appreciate it.

I am thrilled for you.
