You are so right. Please accept my apologies. I guess it just irks me when someone with no firsthand knowledge always has to chime in. Take this post:
I could respond with "Just because you are a janitor at a dealership and you have run a mop under a Hummer doesn't make you an expert. You should really drive one before making a stupid statement like that." But I won't. Or take this statement
We have already established that this gentleman's girlfriend ran off with a Blaser Salesman. So I could reccommend he order some Enzyte and "go long" and get on with his life. But I won't. I could do this to my post:
But I won't. So thanks for your post Eric. Now that I have lightened up I feel better already.

The first two on the list corresponds to the way that I always felt about them. Chevy/Rem been doing it well for years but nothing extremely fancy (with a few exceptions), plodding along building quality rigs. Ford/Winchester - When they have something going good, they change it to 'make it better' and/or cheaper but future generations admit the mistake and bring back a new version of the originals. '55 T-Bird = Pre 64 Model 70, '68 Mustang = Many other Pre 64 Models, etc.

Weatherby = Lamborghini. They are both ugly and have more power than needed.

It was bad enough seeing it compared to a Tikka! Tikka in my mind is the Skoda of the rifle industry in that it's barrel (read engine) is made by Sako (read VW) and it functions just as well but with a different set of bodywork and with a different badge. No-one makes a subaru in the rifle world - plenty of mid seventies British Leyland though!

Blaser R93 = Mercedes G-Wagon because a G-wagon can be a military vehicle or super fancy just like a Blaser. Blaser K95 BMW M3 little and pretty Blaser S-2 toyota 5 ton truck, does the job supremely well and butt ugly Sauer 202- Unimog Ugly but beautiful and tough Weatherby MkV Delux= new Ford Mustang retro style noise and power. Dakota 76= OCC hog not worth what it cost, but better than the original and gets attention anywhere.

I had 83 and 89 Saabs that went 220k miles with no break downs. Then GMC bought Saab, and I got a 95 Saab made in the old Opel factory. At 40k miles it was already a lemon. No more Saabs for me. Are there any guns that went from a high is quality to a low? Pre 64 - Post 64 Win?

I have to agree with the Weatherby being a Caddy. Both grossly ovcerpriced and a P.O.S. Bob

Guys, I wouldn't compare a piece of crap like ford ( fix or repair daily) with a winchester. I drive one! The Unimog joke was pretty good, and whoever thinks that German cars aren't reliable, well, not if they are assembled in the USA, or Mexico! I owned a Mercedes and a BMW, those didn't get dusty inside Survival of the fittest? That's just natural selection.

My car-gun analogy regards the old gun collector market, where us Americans are a bit nuts about our own products. Parker = '66 Mustang Fox = '68 Camaro The collectors are paying more for a vintage muscle car than for a Ferrari. It's their money and their collections, I just don't quite get it.

Just my two cents' worth--Ford is neither "first on race day" nor "fix or repair daily" it actually is "found on road dead". An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool"

Winchester = Indian Both had the better American product but crappy management.

It's always interesting when these old threads get pulled up. While all cars are not created equal, and Japanese are by far the best bang for your buck (and predominately assembled in US) the biggest factor is maintenance. And the reason in large part that the foreign cars with big price tags last so long is people maintain them well. My personal opinion on that. I got 195k miles on the transmission of my 91 explorer, 206k or so on the engine. both rebuilt, still working and saves me a payment. My wifes car is a Honda though, and people that give me trouble about not buying american all get the same answer, I'll buy american when they make a good product. Some of them are good, or ok, but have crappy resale value. it is my sincere belief that American makers have survived so long on nationalism. since we are all playing though: Echols Legend= Bugatti CZ = Honda good quality but not as nice as an Acura, lots of upgrades available Red My rule of life prescribed as an absolutely sacred rite smoking cigars and also the drinking of alcohol before, after and if need be during all meals and in the intervals between them. -Winston Churchill

i reckon that goes on your you basis for the car slections... wincehster and browning have to be foreign makes, as thy are owned by giat... and BMW 3 series are "Salesmen's staff cars" and mercedes 420s are taxis Remington = Oldsmobile - dad like em Winchester = but, in the spirit of original post - Volvo (a ford company) Browning = Trabant Weatherby = vector (highend, weird, and totally american) Tikka = Saab Sako = Saab Ruger = Pontiac.... opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? I think a rifle should give you an overall satisfaction, not only when you shoot it. I think you combined them pretty well. Survival of the fittest? That's just natural selection.
