A while back I mentioned my father picking up a model 30 Express in 30-06 for $500.00 at a local gunshow......It was in fantastic condition, but before I could snap some photos, Dad decided he had to start widdling and tweaking on it..

Well, here's the end result....

The stock was only refinished, bedded and barrel floated.

Barrel and action were bead-blasted and hot blued.

New Griffin and Howe side-mount base and rings installed.

By the way, the rifle came with a Lyman 48 receiver site to boot....Not bad for $500.00.

It's shooting under 1 MOA right now with factory loads.

The comb of the stock had to be brought down nearly a 1/2" to allow the bolt come back properly and for my dad to be able to get down on the stock properly.....Amazing considering the time period in which this stock was made. Straighter than any other we had seen and much better in terms of workmanship than a standard 30s.

Here's a pic or two.

Very nice. That Lyman 48 begs to have a blank slide made for it that replaces the sight slide when the scope is in place. Considering the talent you have I am a bit surprised it doesn't have one. Smiler Wink Smiler

Hope you machined over the g&h base so the screws and pins dont show and then blued the base together with the rest of the gun. The way g&h has always done it.

Actually, the base had already been installed, as well as the Lyman site when Dad bought it. I might add, it was done very well too. No rings were included, so we picked those up after the fact.

And as it's been mentioned, we are definitely gonna mill out a replacement filler for the site. It's also getting reblued, but we were lacking the right screwdrivers to dissasemble the site. It's a long story of worthless crack-heads who thought breaking into my fathers gunsmith shop and taking things they had no idea how to use was a good idea. Slowly we have replenished the majority of the lost goods, but it's little projects like this that you remember more things that have been taken........It's actually been about 6 years since it happened.

Also one of the worse things they did was stop playing the football game between Madras and Prineville some of the best football I seen was played between those two schools heck Madras could lose all there games except that and still call it a good year.

Nice work. thumb
Triggerguard I wish you folks would consider making a 1 piece triggerguard & floor plate like the one for the Win M70 but with the correct hole spacing for the large ring 98's & we could worry about making the box (which is the easy part).

It's coming, but I've got so many irons in the fire right now, I ain't getting much sleep, so she's gonna have to wait a wee bit longer.

I'm cutting chips on the first operation of our receiver today, so needless to say......I is busy.

I can't find a good "anticipation" smilie, but am anticipating it nonetheless.
