Does anyone use a thumb plane to remove and thin stocks? I've normally used #49 and #50 cabinet files (and a real aggressive one I just picked up), but tried a thumb plane I had laying around this weekend and it was great! Keeps things squared, not file marks, can do LONG custs/removals easily. Now, I still need to use the rasps and files around the grips and butt. Just curious. Keep the government as far away from it as possible, then step back and behold the wonderment and goodness.

Sure. File, rasp, chisel, gouge, scraper, plane etc. Whatever works for the area. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
