Anyone else try this polyurethane spray? I used it for the first time last week for the final two coats on a stock with several coats of TruOil. It dried quickly, smooth & beautiful and appears that it will provide excellent water protection.

Forrest,
shhhhhh, the purists will get upset of they hear poly!!!

I haven't tried it, but was thinking of thinning some of the poly i've got and airbrushing it... the spray sounds like the same thing, with less hassle

It's certainly easy and quick to apply and leaves a smooth finish. Not sure how well it would work on bare unsealed wood, how many coats it would take to build up a good base, etc., may try that next time.

About 6-7 coats fills in all the pours. Then wet sand with 400 grit paper to bring it back smooth. Then one more finish coat followed by a good rotton stone rub and it's ready for the woods. Great stuff!

I use it on bare wood.

I havent used it, I think I remember a while back somebody posted that Dennis Olson has used it at times, I may call Dennis and find out. I have a can of Pro Custom Oil in spray, probably about the same thing, but havent got the nerve to use it yet, still doing it the old way..............which works for me.

Forest, I had trouble when I tried it but I think it was the spray can or the nozzle. I think the product would have been better from a spray gun. It did get a good finish but I had to rub out some orange peel and some small runs. I am not used to things being that easy to get a good finish and need to try it again sometime.

Paul Dressel has been experimenting with some spray finishes and Biesens have been using them for a number of years now.

Chic,
and the spray nozzle is why i had thought about using an air gun... when "in trouble" or challenged, we tend to revert to our first learning... and since sandblasting is probably a VERY bad thing for the finish, I figured an airbrush would be close enough...

there's a skill to using spraycans without making feathers, runs, and holidays... I had that skill at one time!!!

I'm a rattle can journeyman. I just need to learn how to do rub on finish.
