McGowen Precision Barrels Rumors

Rumors are everywhere these days aren't they? Today while sitting down at lunch we received a phone call from one of our very good customers. At the end of the conversation he said that he heard a rumor that McGowen Precision Barrels was going out of business. WOW! What a shocker to us considering we are going balls to the wall and the positive feedback we are getting on our rifle barrels has been phenominal.

Hmmm..... Wonder who could have started that rumor??? We have a pretty good idea, so if they are reading this all I can say is "Nice Try".

Before anyone believes or starts spreading a rumor that they heard, please do us a favor and give us a call and we'll let you know the real poop.

Besides being a fantastic businessman, the owner of McGowen Precision Barrels is honest above all else. And believe me when I say that if he even had the slightest leaning towards closing the business, we'd be the first ones to know.

Regards,

Dan J Wynne

Dan,
Thanks for the post.
I was aware of no such rumors, nor do I see how jeffeosso's post about Bauska being closed could have been misconstrued.

My McGowen-PB barrel in .308 is finally completing as a 300 Lapua Mag this week.
The Mcgowen-PB .395 barrel has performed beautifully on the 400/.395 Nitro Express, and another of the same barrels is dawdling with another gunsmith into a .395 Ruger Max.

The rest of my McGowen barrels are by Harry McGowen, and they have been superb also.

Do you think maybe some dullard just now heard that Harry McGowen closed shop and doesn't know about the new McGowen Precision Barrels?

Let
the
dullard
come forth and reveal himself.

Sumbuddy who know?

I'll be back for more.

www.mcgowenbarrel.com

The website has improved greatly since the opening days.

The new Mcgowen Precision Barrels, LLC was offering stainless and chromoly at the same price, still only $75 differential (as jeffeosso pointed out): That sounds like proper price adjustment to reflect materials cost and what the market will bear. thumb

Barrel twist rates offered have expanded.
Good to see all these twists in .510 caliber:
10" thumb thumb
12"
15"
20"
24"

I see there is still a .395 1:12" too. thumb thumb thumb

If Gerard ever gets his import papers together I would love to send him a couple of your new .395 barrels with the GSC special contour.

How about a .666-caliber barrel? Can McGowen do this?

It is for the 16.92x95mm Teufel Jaeger, compliments of mad scientist Macifej.

with a 1:16" TWIST
1.500" shank diameter
36" length, stainless

Anyone who hasn't tried McGowen yet should give them a shot next time you need a barrel. I've had them rebarrel two rifles this year. The barrels shoot great and the action work they did for me was excellent. Besides that, their customer service is superb and they deliver on time.

Not sure where the rumor started but you can be assured that if there is any truth to it I will be the first one on here letting everyone know.

We've got way too many things going right now to even consider such nonsense. With 2 actions already in prototyping and more on the way, can't see how or why we would even consider it.

Our barrels are being received very well and from what we are hearing back from customers they are shooting great.

Harry is still going strong gunsmithing.

Right,
Harry and son(s) are still gunsmithing in St. Anne, IL, but closed their barrel making "shop."

As for the .666-caliber barrels, never mind. You don't need that. That will probably be like a Baby Ruth candy bar floating in the swimming pool. Too spooky. rotflmo

I've got three of the McGowen barrels and am happy with each of them. I have RIP to thank for having them make the.395 barrels. I'll also be having them provide barrels for other rifles, as needed, in the future.
Shame on whoever said they're going out of business.
And Hey Guys, I want that small, lefthand, action.

Yes, I used to work for them, in fact I worked for the Montana Rifleman for 7 1/2 years. It was a good learning experience for me as I was able to help (with the help of others) bring the company up in stature, but alas (does anyone really say that anymore?) it was time to move on. I hold no ill will towards them and wish them the best in whatever they do. When offered the opportunity to go to work for another barrel company, who am I to say no? And over the course of the past year since our boss purchased McGowen Rifle Barrels, we have (I believe) improved on Harry's processes and are working hard to provide the very best rifle barrels out there.
